Our Story – It’s a Boating Thing!

Growing up on the eastern shore of Maryland, I was surrounded by the rivers that would eventually shape my life passions.  From my early memories crabbing on the Wye River with my dad, to planting sea grasses for the Bay Foundation as a summer job during high school, to meeting my husband on a water-skiing double date, and later teaching our sons and now our granddaughter how to fish, the rivers are the nucleus of my life.

Although my career took me in a different direction, my husband and I have shared a passion of refurbishing older boats to bring back the luster of the teak, repainting faded hulls, and restoring galleys and berths. We always had the same goal in mind, to enjoy it and share with our family and friends, all types of boating from sailing, watersports, fishing, crabbing, etc. Then find the right boat owner who would “fall in love” with these beauties then continue to charter the waterways at the helm. To date, we have refurbished fifteen boats over the past twenty years.

My vision and dream when retiring has been to move this passion into a retail store, hence River Living was born. Shoppers will find in this store a mixture of locally sourced home decor, art, woodworking, and repurposed nautical items.  You will also find what any good boat house should have, a selection of marine supplies. River Living is also proud to bring you a line of fishing rods and tackle that is target specific for this area.  Being located just 2 blocks from the Chester River, I hope you find River Living a representation of living the river life on Maryland’s eastern shore!  Patsy Coleman, Proprietor

Friday evening, all day Saturday and Sunday, Downtown Chestertown
In response to the British Parliament’s closing of the port of Boston, the citizens of Chestertown, Maryland met in May of 1774 and set forth “Resolves” forbidding importing, selling, or consuming tea in Chestertown. According to local legend, residents then gathered at the town center, marched down High Street to the brigantine Geddes, which was anchored in the Chester River, and tossed her cargo of tea overboard. The annual reenactment of that event is the centerpiece of the Chestertown Tea Party Festival.
